Etenna's Tough Cookie

Another star will shine in Heaven tonight,
as I’ve lost a dear old friend.
Her little body was just worn out,
her time was near its end.

For me this decision,
was the hardest one to make.
But I made it out of love,
and for my dear dog’s sake.

So thru the gates of Heaven,
there goes not a human form,
But a small white, lumpy-bumpy dog,
slightly scarred and worn.

The Gods sent Cassie down to me,
where she stayed for nine short years,
to be my constant companion,
and the drier of my tears.

I loved the fur of Cassie’s ears,
and was wont to kiss her there.
In return of this tender gesture,
Cassie covered everything with hair.

Paper was her passion,
to ingest this favorite dish,
reams & reams & bushels,
would be her fondest wish.

Cassie loved the little kitties,
To see one made her flutter,
If you asked her how she liked them,
”Fried, with salt and butter!”

To know Cassie was to love her,
a dear sweet, silly soul.
Even after she figured out how to eat toilet paper 
straight from the roll.

To say good-bye to a life-long friend,
is the hardest thing to do,
But no one lives forever,
not Cassie, nor me or you.

Picture her in Heaven,
with a chewed-up halo crown,
and silky wings upon her back,
to help her whiz around.

Cassie still has a job to do,
now that she’s been set free,
She’s become a Guardian Angel, 1^st Class,
and she’s watching over me.
